K. Valerie Connor Memorial Poetry Celebration Announcement
VALERIE CONNOR MEMORIAL POETRY CELEBRATION
Join us on Sunday, April 3 at 2 pm as we announce a new annual celebration of poetry named in honour of former Orillia resident and museum volunteer K. Valerie Connor.
The K. Valerie Connor Memorial Poetry Celebration will be staged for the first time in July of this summer in conjunction with the annual Leacock Summer Festival.
“Valerie was a tireless worker for the museum and a real lover of poetry,” said Leacock Museum curator Fred Addis. “We’re so pleased to be able to pay tribute to her through this unique annual event.”
Each year, during the festival, prizes will be awarded for the best poems submitted by residents of Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka. Festival readings by professional published poets, long a part of the Leacock Musuem offerings, will also be a feature of this new initiative.
Full details will be released at the announcement tea on April 3 at the Leacock Museum, 50 Museum Drive in Orillia. Everyone is invited.
The K. Valerie Connor Memorial Poetry Celebration is funded by the Estate of K. Valerie Connor and administered by the Leacock Museum National Historic Site, Department of Parks, Culture and Recreation, City of Orillia.
