Sunday, March 19: Simcoe Writer’s Group

Join us on March 19 for transgender fiction author jia qing wilson-yang.

jia qing’s talk will be focused on our relationship to our history and the land we occupy, it will be a time spent with some readings from her novel Small Beauty and some poetry and include discussion about trans fiction, being a racialized writer in Canada, and writing as a way to connect to our histories.

The workshop will offer participants an opportunity to consider their relationship to the land we are on and their relationship to their ancestors. It will involve some short writing exercises and discussion.

jia qing wilson-yang is a writer and musician living in Toronto. Her first novel, Small Beauty, has been described as a southern Ontario gothic, and a “quiet gorgeous meditation on grief, race and community.” Small Beauty was given an Honour of Distinction for the Writer’s Trust of Canada Dayne Ogilvie Prize for Emerging LGBT Writers. Her poetry has appeared in Room Magazine.
